Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman J. Bennett Johnston has been a Louisiana Senator for twenty years. He attended Louisiana State University, and served in the Army from 1956 to 1959. Mr. Johnston divides his time between the Senate Appropriations, Budget, and Select Intelligence Committees as well as the Special Committee on Aging.

The Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources manages federal lands and determines the energy policy of the nation. The Committee is usually controlled by western senators whose states have large forests and federal parks, and by those senators whose states depend on oil and gas revenues. Often these members are wilderness advocates and conservationists, making this Committee one of the most vocal and fiery in its debate.
